Wingecarribee Shire Council has amended the plans of the proposed Moss Vale Indoor Aquatic Centre after consulting with the Shire’s swimming groups.

Changes include increasing the maximum depth to 1.8 metres.

Chairman of the Indoor Aquatic Working Group, Councillor Larry Whipper said the amendment to the plans would allow greater usage of the facility by its key users.

“Council has listened to the comments received from the community and has tried to incorporate some of the ideas into the design of the centre. Changing the deep water depth will subsequently provide a space for Water Polo training.

“This will be particularly beneficial to the Shire’s many junior Water Polo participants,” Councillor Whipper said.

Under the proposed changes an 18 metre x 12 metre area will be provided with a depth of 1.8 metres.

Other initiatives being considered in the proposal include the final concept design, operating hours and green initiatives.

“Council is committed to delivering a first-class year round Indoor Aquatic Centre and we believe this centre will benefit all of the Shire’s aquatic users.

“The Indoor Aquatic Working Group reminds any interested parties that the deadline to provide comment or feedback is fast approaching,” Councillor Whipper said.

The Development Application for the Indoor Aquatic Centre is expected to be submitted following the closure of public comments.

Construction of the facility is expected to begin mid 2012.
