Zauner Constructions have been ordered to pay $10,000 by Moss Vale Local Court following prosecution by Wingecarribee Shire Council.

Local Court Magistrate Cheetham heard how the builder had polluted local waters by pumping sediment laden wastewater into public stormwater drains.

The incident was a result of construction activities being undertaken on a multi-unit residential development located on the corner of Martha Street and Kangaloon Road in Bowral.

In handing down his decision Magistrate Cheetham took into account Zauner’s previous clean environmental record but was satisfied nonetheless with the evidence presented by Council which included supporting photographs.

Magistrate-imposed fines are designed to act as a deterrent to ensure other builders do not compromise their environmental responsibilities.
