Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Acting General Manager John Burgess has reassured residents that Council operations remain unaffected following the suspension of councillors on Friday 12 March 2021.

“It’s business as usual in terms of Council operations,” he said.

“Our libraries are still open, our water and sewerage services remain unaffected, rubbish collections will proceed as normal and residents can still contact Council for customer enquiries.”

Mr Burgess’ message follows Friday’s announcement from the Hon Shelley Hancock MP, Minister for Local Government that Wingecarribee Shire councillors have been suspended for three months and an Interim Administrator appointed.

The suspension applies to the mayor and councillors, with the Interim Administrator performing their functions.  It does not affect Council staff or daily operations.

The Office of Local Government has appointed Mr Viv May PSM as Interim Administrator.

“Mr May has decades of local government experience which will help restore the proper and effective operation of Council,” Mr Burgess said.

“Our Executive team is looking forward to welcoming Mr May and working together to restore the community’s trust in Council.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff of Council who have continued working for the betterment of our Shire despite the challenges and uncertainty of the past months.”
