Commencement of work on the multi-million dollar Berrima Road Deviation Project is a step closer with the appointment of specialist infrastructure consultancy firm Opus International Consultants P/L.

The multi-disciplinary infrastructure consultancy group has been engaged by Wingecarribee Shire Council to undertake detailed design and environmental studies for the multi-million dollar project.

The project will see the construction of approximately 600 metres of new road including a new B-triple capacity roundabout at the intersection of Berrima Road and Taylor Ave, New Berrima.  In addition to realigning the road the existing rail level crossing will also be replaced with a rail overbridge.

Wingecarribee Shire Council General Manager Ann Prendergast said the project is the latest stage in the development of the $82 million Moss Vale Enterprise Corridor scheme.

“The Moss Vale Enterprise Zone has been designed to attract new business to our Shire,” she said.

“And the Berrima Road Deviation project in particular, will provide safer and more efficient access to the Hume Highway.”

The total cost of the Berrima Road Deviation Project is estimated to cost $9.2 million.  The Australian Government is providing $4.6 million in funding through the National Stronger Regions Funds (NSRF) with the remainder of monies to come from Council’s reserves.

Construction on the Berrima Road Deviation Project is expected to commence in the first half of 2017.
