Australia Day nominations now being called

Wingecarribee Shire residents are being asked to reward the tireless workers who constantly contribute to the community by nominating them for an Australia Day award.

Nominations are now being sought in two categories and contributions can include individual acts of compassion, generosity or bravery.

2013 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards categories include:

  • Citizen of the Year, and
  • Young Citizen of the Year

The Young Citizen Award is open to people who are aged 25 years or younger.

Wingecarribee Shire Mayor, Councillor Juliet Arkwright encouraged residents to nominate those they admire or whose contributions they find inspiring at all levels of the community.

“There are many quiet achievers in our community who make a difference every day.

“Even if you think someone is well known for their achievements, it’s best not to assume they’ve already been nominated, and I encourage all residents to submit a nomination of their own.

“You don’t need to know the nominee personally, you just need to be able to tell us how they’ve inspired you and why they’re worthy of such an award,” Councillor Arkwright said.

All nominees must reside in the Wingecarribee Shire and nominations close on Friday 11 January 2013.
